Birthdays

McKinley turned 12 on August 28th...and Todd turned, well...he had a birthday on October 4th.

Here are a few snapshots of our little celebrations

Todd loves the cakes that our Aunt Penny bakes because they taste the best!  This year he got his very own cake and thankfully he shared with everyone!

Indiana State Fair 2013

Even though it was the first day of school this past Tuesday, it was also $2 Tuesday at the Indiana State Fair!  So after picking the kids up, we headed straight there.

Although $2 admission is great, $2 concessions is even MORE GREAT!  We sampled corn dogs, pork sandwiches, gyros, elephant ears, Amish donuts, fried cheese, deep fried Reeses, ice cream, and deep fried cookie dough.  Yes, people, that was our dinner!

 Elephant ear elation!

Back to School and the Circus

My kids started 3rd and 6th grade this week...unfortunately, I did not get many good pictures.

These were taken with my cell phone at our annual Chick-Fil-A, first day of school, out for breakfast stop

I had a customer who waited patiently all summer for me to make a special request Tattered Tulips set for her daughter.  As soon as I dropped the kids off at school I got right to work and I am thrilled with how this little circus dress came out!

Indianapolis City Market

The last few weeks my kids have been at church camp, on alternating weeks.  I have enjoyed spending time alone with each child while the other was away at camp.  Last week I took McKinley to downtown Indianapolis for lunch at the Indianapolis City Market, we had a blast!  He really enjoyed it.

The french bakery...we splurged on brownies, cookies, and fresh bread

The crepe stand, we will be trying this next time!  You can get sweet or savory fillings in those huge crepes!

Yummy Greek food for me!

Pizza for McKinley, of course! Although he also ate about half of my lunch, too...

Indianapolis Colts Mini Camp Practice

Last week, on the spur of the moment, we headed into downtown Indianapolis for the Colts mini training camp practice.  It was free to the public and concessions were half off!  We had dinner, walked around Lucas Oil Stadium, and got pretty darn close to our favorite players.

Next year, I will find out in advance when this event it taking place.  We missed out on going onto the field and player autographs.

Easter 2013

I let Evie pick her own Easter shoes this year...I cringed, she said "she felt like a princess"

We had dinner at my mom's house and then were off for an Easter egg hunt with my BFF and her kids.  I admit, I still love hiding the eggs.  :)

Fall Pictures 2012

I finally found a few minutes to take those fall pictures of the kids that I talked about back in September.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with their families.  Let the non-stop Christmas music begin!

Time again for family photos

October 2011

Due to the drought we had during the summer, autumn seems to be coming on fast in central Indiana.  The fields are already changing color and that gets me thinking about fall pictures.

I am going to be a bad mom and admit that I don't really feel like taking pictures of the kids right now.  However, fall pictures are something we have done every year for the past 5 years.  I know that in just a few years I will treasure being able to look back over all the pictures in a row to see how they changed.  Even if right now, the changes seem too subtle too notice.

That leads to the age old question...what are they going to wear?  (I am not sure if Todd and I will be in the pictures this year.  I like to think we don't age and look the same.  ;) )

I looked at all my usual favorite places for kids clothing and nothing was screaming to me, especially at some of the price tags I saw!  Enter a $10 Boden coupon in the mail.  Combine that with 15% off and free shipping, I'm sold.  I let Evie pick the dress she liked best and then I picked a shirt that I thought coordinated, without being too matchy, for McKinley. $35 after tax and shipping, done!

In 8-10 days, after the clothing arrives, I will grit my teeth against the "we don't want our pictures taken" whining and drag my kids out into the field.  Wish me luck!

Last Summer Hurrah

Visiting the Indiana State Fair and spending the weekend with family was the perfect way to wrap up summer vacation.  There is so much to do at that fair from stuffing our faces to feeding the animals...and hanging out on HUGE tractors, we had a blast!

Now that our summer vacation has officially ended, it feels like time to think towards fall decorations and activities.  It sure seems like Autumn is sneaking up on us fast this year!

First Day of School

We have a tradition of stopping for breakfast on the first day of school.  Because we left a little earlier than normal, it was still darkish outside for our pictures

.  Like last year, I printed up some signs announcing their grades.  The kids loathe this tradition and I let them tear up the signs right after we take the pictures.  heehee.

Happy Birthday, Evie

Today my sweet and sometimes sassy daughter turned 8 years old!

I didn't have the energy for a big party this year.  Instead we had family over for cupcakes and soda pop floats.

I found the cute little ballerina cupcake holders and toppers at HomeGoods.

I tried this tip from Pinterest for bakery style cupcakes...to be honest I could not tell a difference.  I also cannot make chocolate cupcakes without them being dry...I tried to steer Evie towards white cake, but she said no.  lol
