Organizing Small Rooms

McKinley's room was driving me crazy! Mismatched furniture was taking up too much space and not meeting his needs.

Here was McKinley's room before:

After a little help from Todd on the first shelf....McKinley put the last two together by himself!

I decided to purchase 3 cube shelves to line the long wall in his room and they have been working out great. They provide plenty of space for uniforms, pajamas, and undies.....with enough left over for him to display his most prized possesions. They also take up very little space and elminate the need for a bookshelf and bulky dresser.

AFTER:

My kids are getting to that older age where their rooms need to be more "them" and less decorated the way mommy wants. A large corkboard and magnetic board from Ikea allow him to hang whatever he wants without putting holes everywhere.

A small board with funky brackets makes a small desk, just right for homework or building a lego ship, while elminating the need for a large desk. I think it also gives an slightly industrial look to them room.

The walls are still a work in progress, but so far I added his initials over the window and found some fun license plate related pictures to hang. One license plate is off the car we had when we got married in 1998....McKinley thought was was pretty cool to have an "antique" license plate! lol

Bedroom Paint

Here was my bedroom before:

Here is my new master bedding and paint color. We also got bed risers to make the bed taller. The white and gray has a much more soothing feel to me.

It's a good start but there are several projects I need to finish before the room is complete.

This corner used to be the home of an overstuffed chair. That chair made it's way to the kids playroom and I put my Grandma's desk here. Mainly because I didn't have anywhere else in the house to put the desk. My plan is to find a big mirror for over the desk to give it the feel of a "vanity"....and to redo the chair.

Next project is new flooring. The carpet has definitely seen better days! Thanks to points from our debit card we are going to be getting new hardwood laminate for practically free.

I am also on the lookout for something to hang on the wall over the bed. I would love to find an affordable sumburst mirror! I have seen several tutorials....but I dunno, I would rather just buy one!

The tan lampshades aren't working anymore.

New Chair & Other Randomness

I fell in love with this little chair the minute I saw it at World Market! I thought it over for a few weeks before I pulled the trigger and made the purchase.

Here is a sneak peek of my new TV shelf...which is still waiting for proper decorations. My next project is to build a gallery wall around the TV. I have seen several pictures of gallery walls where you do a double take before you realize there is a TV...that is my goal!

Finally here are a few new things around the house. I picked up these awesome glass candlesticks for $14 at Hobby Lobby. I love their chunkiness! The globe I grabbed some time ago at Christmas Tree Shops for $10...it has been hanging out, waiting for the right home.

I also found these fun botanical canvas prints for $3.99 each Christmas Tree Shops! They work great above the dresser in my entryway. If you notice, one of the glass jars is still waiting to be filled...I'll get to it...eventually!

Wizard of Oz

I have been holding onto this fabric for 4 years! I decided the DillyDally Throwback launch was a good time to use it.

This week Todd repainted my master bedroom...a really pretty gray and I love it! I will post pictures next week.

He was also willing to repaint my living room and kitchen....but....I could not decide on a color! He even bought me a few sample quarts and I still couldn't decide. In the end, he touched up the green color I already have. I know bloggers everywhere are gasping in horror. lol

NetFlix

My husband signed us up for Netflix. He didn't ask me, which is probably a good thing because I would have said no. Buuuuuut....I love it!! The kids can watch almost all their favorite shows instantly with no commercials telling them they *NEED* this or that thing. Plus, I can watch my favorite shows on the computer while I am sewing, I won't divulge how many seasons of Law & Order:SVU I have watched so far! lol

But the best part are all the old movies I have been "renting" on DVD.

This week was: "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"
I'm sorry, they just don't make movies like this anymore!

Last week was: "It Happened One Night"
Todd was skeptical, I mean how good could a movie from 1934 be anyway? But of course, the movie won him over.

Insomnia & Coffee Tables

The whole "spring forward" thing is messing with me! 1:11 A.M.....I should have been asleep ages ago. Oh well, I figured now was as good a time as any to look at coffee tables.
I haven't had a coffee table in years, but I recently changed up my living room a bit and I think a coffee table would work nicely in there now.
I love the tv show American Pickers. A few months ago, I saw them buy an awesome cart that they said they would sell as a coffee table...since that episode it seems I am seeing these cart tables everywhere! Sadly, they are $$$$...unless, of course, you are one of the uber lucky people who stumbles on one at a garage sale. I doubt I would fall in the uber lucky people category.

This one caught my eye at World Market...hmmm....$279, better than $1000, but probably still over budget. Either I will start saving or maybe I can sweet talk dear hubby into the Ana White make it yourself version. We'll see...

Green Beans

Isn't it funny how the simplest things can become some of our fondest memories? My grandma and grandpa had a big garden. The garden was filled with tidy rows of everything from cabbage to pumpkins. There was even a rhubarb plant. ick.

I remember snapping fresh green beans from the garden with my grandma many times.

I don't have a big garden, probably never will. But at least I can snap green beans with my kids. Thank you Meijer produce department. :)

By the way...never miss an opportunity to practice your cross-eye skills!

The Weekend

Pin It Complete with low quality cell phone pictures.

Yesterday, I worked on a custom request for a sweet customer. Here is a sneak peek...

IMAG0527-1

This morning was church. My grandma took McKinley home for the afternoon and the rest of us went to Carrabba's for lunch! Can I just say I am happy that my son will be old enough to remember spending time with his great grandma? Very neat. :)

Anyway, here are a few pictures from lunch. Why my girly girl daughter always picks the lizards, snakes, and various other critters in the Sunday School treat bucket...I will never know. But hey...a lizards gotta eat too.

Bird Pillow

Pin It A few weeks ago I stopped in TJ Maxx to get Evie some of those dresses with matching American Girl dresses. Of course I had to swing through the home department...this pillow caught my eye and I couldn't leave it there! So $16.99 later, it's mine and I love it.
